Allergy Education

There's so much to learn if you are new to a food allergy or restricted/special diet. Here are some resources for those of you who may be new. Also be sure to click on "Resources" in our main navigation for more links.

Gluten Free
A great starting place for learning about the hidden sources of gluten.

Dairy Free
A wonderful page with info about what to avoid, and things you may not have thought of. Also note, there is a difference between being lactose intolerant, and dairy allergic. You'll also need to learn about avoiding casein if you are allergic, as some lactose free items still contain casein (milk protein).

Egg Free
A good list with things to avoid that you may not have thought contained eggs.

Nut Free
Some ways to avoid nuts. Remember, nuts are one of the top 8, and personally, I've found it to be one of the most reactive. I can't stress enough the importance of reading labels.

Soy Free
An alternative view on hidden sources of soy. They also touch on GMOs.

Yeast Free
A great list for avoiding yeast.

A word of advice. For everyone suffering with any sort of food allergy, I have found that the best way to deal with it is to eat simple. Start with fresh, healthy, ingredients. Simple meals will naturally eliminate a lot of allergens. Meals you make from scratch will also aid in this.
